  • Evaluation of the apologetics project, report
  • Detailed planning of the project The discursive fight over religious texts in antiquit y
  • Discussion of theory and empiricism of the project
  • Presentation of articles on martyrdom in antiquity (final part of the apologetics project)

Communication: Anthology on martyrdom published in ECCA (eds J. Engberg and A.K. Petersen).

Study of Irenaeus of Lyon, Adversus Haereses , I-V (4 seminars)

Aim: A common point of departure through the study of a fundamental work.

Thesis: Irenaeus develops exegetic strategies in reply to theological, dogmatic and organisational conflicts.

Communication: Working paper and two articles: One by A.C. Jacobsen: "Strategies of biblical hermeneutics developed in conflict with Gnostics" and one by J. Engberg.

In May - August 2007 Professor Karla Pollmann, Sct. Andrews and Professor Lorenzo Perrone, Bologna will visit the Faculty of Theology under the auspices the University of Aarhus research priority area "Religion and normativity, theme 1: The discursive fight over religious texts in antiquity".

Programme

13.15h-14.30h: Professor Karla Pollmann: "Exegesis without End? Forms, Methods and Functions of early Christian Biblical Commentaries".

14.30h-14.45h: Break

14.45h-16.00h: Professor Lorenzo Perrone: Scripture for a life of Perfection. The Bible in Late Antique Monasticism. The Case of Palestine.

The lectures will be followed by a glass of wine.
